A second person was arrested in connection with an altercation in Hilo early Saturday morning on the 400 block of West Kawili Street, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with terroristic threatening Sunday. He was turned over to the jurisdiction of Family Court. Because he is a minor, police are not releasing any other information about him.

Police have also charged 21-year-old Atkinson Nakashima of Pahoa with attempted second-degree murder for his alleged role in the same incident.

At 2 a.m. Saturday, police responded to West Kawili Street and found a 21-year-old Hilo man with a neck injury. Investigation revealed the victim had attempted to break up a fight between Nakashima and the teen. Nakashima struck the victim with a machete. The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition with a neck injury. He has since been released from the hospital, police said.
